The responsibility of a Founding FUSTIAN involves building the scientific, technological, and entrepreneurial foundations required for Africa to compete and lead in the global innovation economy. They are responsible not only for creating products and companies, but for developing people, systems, knowledge, and institutions that can generate progress for generations.
Africa’s long-term prosperity will be secured by the discoveries, technologies, industries, and institutions created in Africa and their influence on global innovation market.
Africa economic transformation will be a result of how Africa invest deeply in science, engineering, research, manufacturing, and technology innovation. The transformation will be results of institutions that kept creating values, opportunities for generations.
We believe, FUSTIA will grow into system which Africa innovation economy will stand and depend on.
A mission is measured by contribution.
FUSTIANs mission . We are looking for people who want to help build one of Africa’s most ambitious scientific and technology institutions.
People whose greatest ambition is to create discoveries, technologies, companies, and institutions that expand what is possible for future generations.
Becoming a Founding FUSTIAN is determined by the combination of character, capability, ambition, intellectual curiosity, demonstrated action, and commitment to building something greater than oneself.
A Founding FUSTIAN must demonstrate the capacity to contribute to FUSTIA's mission of advancing scientific discovery, technological innovation, entrepreneurship, institution-building, and Africa's transformation into an innovation-driven economy.
The following ten qualities constitute the core selection criteria for Founding FUSTIANs.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be a builder who creates rather than merely discusses. They must demonstrate a tendency to transform ideas into tangible results, whether through technologies, companies, research, organizations, products, systems, or other forms of value creation. FUSTIA seeks people who naturally move from identifying a problem to attempting to solve it, and from imagining a possibility to building an initial version of it.
A Founding FUSTIAN must possess a commitment to truth, evidence, experimentation, and intellectual honesty. They must be willing to question assumptions, investigate deeply, distinguish evidence from opinion, and change their conclusions when reality proves them wrong. A scientific mindset is required even when the individual is not a professional scientist, because building the future requires understanding reality rather than simply believing what one wishes were true.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be capable of turning knowledge, ideas, and principles into functioning systems. Engineering is not limited to software, machines, or physical technologies; it is the ability to understand constraints, design solutions, integrate components, test assumptions, and create systems that work in reality. FUSTIA requires people who can transform abstract possibilities into practical capabilities.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be capable of creating value under uncertainty. They must be willing to act without having complete information, recognize opportunities, take calculated risks, mobilize resources, confront failure, and continue searching for viable solutions. Entrepreneurship at FUSTIA is not defined only by founding a company; it is the ability to take ownership of an opportunity and create something valuable where no established path exists.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be capable of making other people more capable. Leadership is not primarily authority, position, or control; it is the ability to create clarity, inspire action, develop people, build trust, make difficult decisions, and take responsibility for outcomes. A founding member must be capable of attracting exceptional people and helping them achieve more together than they could achieve individually.
A Founding FUSTIAN must understand that FUSTIA is not personal property entrusted to their individual interests. They are stewards of an institution, its mission, its resources, its reputation, its people, and its future. They must demonstrate integrity, responsibility, accountability, discretion, and loyalty to the long-term mission. They must be willing to protect the institution even when doing so requires sacrificing personal convenience or short-term benefit.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be a continuous learner. The technologies, industries, scientific fields, and challenges that FUSTIA will encounter will change constantly, and therefore no founding member can rely indefinitely on what they already know. They must demonstrate intellectual curiosity, humility, adaptability, and a willingness to continuously acquire new knowledge and skills.
A Founding FUSTIAN must possess the courage and curiosity to explore territories that others have not yet explored. They should be attracted to difficult problems, emerging technologies, unanswered questions, and opportunities that may not yet have established solutions. FUSTIA is not created to reproduce what already exists; it exists to create new possibilities. A pioneer does not require certainty before beginning. They develop the courage to enter uncertainty while maintaining the discipline to learn from reality.
A Founding FUSTIAN must be capable of thinking beyond immediate rewards. FUSTIA's ambitions may require decades of research, experimentation, company building, institution building, and talent development. Founding members must therefore be able to make decisions based not only on what produces immediate results, but on what creates durable capabilities for the future. They must understand that some of the most important things they build may not produce their greatest benefits during their own lifetime.
A Founding FUSTIAN must understand the historical significance of building from Africa. Their ambition should extend beyond individual success toward the development of capabilities that strengthen Africa's ability to participate in and shape the global innovation economy. They must contribute to building institutions, technologies, companies, knowledge, talent, infrastructure, and ecosystems capable of outliving individual founders. Their work should help establish foundations upon which future generations of Africans can build. Being an African Institution Builder does not mean limiting ambition to Africa. It means building from Africa with the capacity to serve and compete with the world.
